A further step in the marking technology – First Online Marking Machine successfully commissioned
This new system combines the proven RH-Stamping technology and the cooling of the Torch Cutting Machine. In course of the casting process the marking number is stamped on the front side of the product.
Resulting in the following advantages:
- No tracking of the marking number necessary
- No separate marking position necessary
- After cutting, the product is ready for transporting
- Therefore shorter roller table = shorter production hall = less investment costs
With this new technology AMT expects accordingly orders in the next few years. This is another step towards portfolio expansion to meet all customer requirements.

Alpine Metal Tech takes-over Koch H&K
Alpine Metal Tech (AMT) develops, constructs and produces special machines for product identification and inspection, complete solutions for continuous casting machines in the steel industry and special solutions for the testing, production and handling of aluminum wheels. With the Koch Group, another technology leader is now being integrated. As a one-stop-shop provider, Alpine Metal Tech is thus able to offer comprehensive solutions and services under the leading brands NUMTEC, GEGA, MAGNEMAG, KNORR, MAKRA and now also KOCH H&K.
The Koch Group: specialist for rolling technology and coking technology
Koch H&K Industrieanlagen GmbH (Koch H&K) develops for the rolling area individual solutions for the new build sector and for the modernisation of special machines and overall systems including automation, visualisation and network technology. The range of products in detail incorporates systems for rolling (rolling structures for the hot rolling of long products such as profiles, carriers, rails special and rod steels), transporting (roller tables, chain conveyors, manipulators, loading beds, turnover devices and sliding equipment) and processing (cutting, sawing, separating, cooling and aligning).
Koch H&K is a technology leader in the development of machines and plants for rolling of sheet piles and special profiles. In future, sheet piles will increasingly be used as support and casing walls for the construction and extension of port facilities, river drainage systems and in structural and civil engineering. This technology is increasingly being used to protect and preserve conservation areas and water regulations, e.g. as flood protection for the UNESCO Cultural Heritage site at the lagoon in Venice.
Koch Industrieanlagenbau GmbH designs and supplies systems for the production of coke. The company developed a procedure for the low-cost production of a high-grade smelting furnace coke from low-grade coal. With this technology, the iron smelters can convert low-grade coal into high-quality coke at low cost. This so-called "stamping technology" will become increasingly important in future, as low-grade coal is available in sufficient quantity, in contrast to high-grade coal. The Koch Group holds numerous patents both in the rolling mill and in coke technology and is the global technology leader in these areas.
Both companies have their headquarters in Dillingen/Saar in Germany, an excellent strategic location thanks to the proximity to the French, Luxembourg and German steel industry. In addition to proximity to the customer, this site also offers access to cross-border research, development and training centres. This potential of well-qualified engineers and technologies is the basis of the success of the Koch Group and its market leadership. The Group employs around 130 people worldwide, of whom 110 are in Germany.
Dr Andreas Pichler, CEO of AMT, welcomes the takeover: "With the acquisition of the Koch Group, Alpine Metal Tech is on the right track to reach its strategic goals. These comprise specifically extending our product portfolio to meet our customers' requirements for comprehensive solution packages. With our local service and sales units in all key markets, we can now offer our customers an extended range of products and service these products. We have been able to consolidate our international market leadership with this acquisition and expand it further."

Alpine Metal Tech - Employer of the future
On the way to a global one stop solution supplier
Alpine Metal Tech (AMT), a market leader in the areas of product identification, examination of railway tracks as well as special machinery for casting plants in the iron and steel industry, pursues a clear growth strategy: the further expansion of the already existing product portfolio and the globalization of its business operations. The increasing globalization of the company is especially possible due to the expansion of local service and sales units within key markets. For the expansion of its product portfolio, Alpine Metal Tech puts great emphasis on new developments with a strong focus on research & development as well as strategically selected acquisitions.
With GEGA another (world) market leader will now be integrated in AMT
The GEGA group is, with its machinery and plants, market leader in the area of autogenous torch cutting: the cutting of slabs, billets and blooms made of steel. The family business located in Frankfurt/Main, Germany, produces cutting machines since 1965. These machineries take in a key position in casting plants for steel production, as they have to function reliably under extreme conditions such as temperatures above 1000°C. GEGA grew from being a family business with a great pioneering spirit to being one of the worldwide leading supplier of cutting machines and special machinery for deburring as well as for flame descaling. Their continuous focus on research and development enabled countless inventions and therefrom related patents. In 2013 the group obtained revenue of around EUR 30 million with around 240 employees. The sites of this worldwide production, sales and service network are among others: Germany, England, Spain, the US, Brazil and China.
AMT now has an expanding worldwide presence as a supplier of complete solutions
With this take over AMT continues to consequently pursue its growth strategy. Revenues increased due to this acquisition from lastly around EUR 50 million to around EUR 80 million. Dr. Andreas Pichler, CEO of Alpine Metal Tech aims to „provide comprehensive solutions oder: “One Stop Solutions” for the steel industry worldwide with a maximum on-site service for our customers. We will manage this integrating GeGa’s sites into our existing network.“
DDr. Michael Tojner, CEO of the MTC group, is equally satisfied with the completed transaction: „With GEGA, we are integrating another world market leader in our AMT group, next to our well-known brands NUMTEC, KNORR, MAGNEMAG and MAKRA – as well as further strengthen our already strong position in the global, very competitive market of the steel industry and plant construction.“

Merger of two global market leaders
As a world market leader in the fields of product identification and special machines for the metallurgic industry and for the production of aluminium wheels Alpine Metal Tech follows a straight growth strategy. The focus lies on the expansion of the product portfolio and on the globalization of the business activities. The company’s increased globalization happens mainly through the expansion of local service and sales divisions in key markets.
The extension of the product portfolio is carried out by new R&D developments as well as by well-focused acquisitions. Wit the takeover of Knorr Technik (Kapfenberg, AT) ,Alpine Metal Tech got a further world market leader on board.
For more than 40 years Knorr Technik delivers leading rail producers and plant builders worldwide. Knorr Technik founded by Johann Knorr as an engineering office in 1974 has developed to a supplier of high-tech testing lines for the steel industry. With a turnover 2012 of EURO 8 million, Knorr Technik is leading in the field of planning, construction and delivery of those plants.
Based on the continuing expansion of the worldwide railway net and the increased use of high speed trains an increasing demand for testing plants for rails is expected also in the future. Especially high speed trains and high speed routes demand special rails which must undergo an intensified testing method. Knorr also disposes of high-tech testing plants in this area.
Considering this background and a high backlog of orders, Knorr Technik is confident to implement its growth target. In the coming years the location in Kapfenberg will be extended. Johann Knorr and Roland Knorr, key knowledge carriers, will remain in the company as managing director and authorized officer.
The takeover of 100% of the shares of Knorr Technik was successfully concluded on 6th of September 2013 by registration in the Austrian Company Register. In course of this transaction, the company name of Knorr Technik GmbH has changed to KNORR Technik GmbH & Co KG (FN 402343g), whereby its place of business remains unaltered at Wienerstraße 46, 8605 Kapfenberg, Austria.
Thus, all assets and liabilities of Knorr Technik GmbH have been transferred to KNORR Technik GmbH & Co KG in accordance with the laws regarding universal succession. Pursuant to the abovementioned laws, KNORR Technik GmbH & Co KG assumes ex lege all rights and obligations in all existing contracts (incl offers, orders and order confirmations, etc) concluded between Knorr Technik GmbH and your enterprise. All conditions contained in such contracts remain unchanged and valid.
Please note that with the effective date stipulated above, all future correspondence and credit transfers may only be assigned to the attention and on the bank accounts of KNORR Technik GmbH & Co KG.
